About

Art has always been a passion for me. No matter the medium or the materials used. To me, anything and everything is art. It’s just a matter of how you look at it. With this in mind, I turned to photography. I can show others how I see things. From the simplest flower to an intricately carved pattern. The way these subjects are seen can be changed by altering the angle or isolating a color or colors in an image.

I’m not fully sure if I will use what I have learned to pursue a career out of photography. But for now it’s a wonderful hobby. I enjoy photography in that I can share it with family and friends. Some of my skills have been put to use for my family. For my brother-in-law and sister’s business, my mother’s gardens, to memories of family in another country my skills are at work. But if I had to pick one field in photography it would be Documentary. With this photographic approach you can truly illustrate someone’s life and culture.

I came to this realization while on a trip to Vietnam to visit my mother’s family there. My first trip was before taking classes in photography. I still used 16 rolls of film. But now looking back I can see what would have made the shots better. My second trip I had a year’s worth of experience under my belt. Not to mention a digital camera with a large memory card. I was able to get more of what I wanted. But still not perfect. I hope on my third trip I will have everything down pat this time. I’ll have finished my classes, but I’ll never stop learning. It seems there is always something new to learn.
